Habitat: Native to south east / western Asia the Silk tree prefers to have slightly damp soil, but can tolerate short droughts. Is currently naturalised in Tasman and in Northland.
Domesticated Uses: Have a wide 7-9m span the Silk tree provides good summer shade, with a lovely pink flower. Being deciduous it will allow the winter sun through to help the grass and younger trees. They can drop a bit of litter, so plant in an appropriate spot.
Medicinal Uses: Historically used for anxiety, cancer, insomnia, skin infections, and other conditions, but there is no evidence to this at present.
Forest Uses: n/a. Only plant in a controlled area.
